CROSSROADS

Leaves of Morya’s Garden I

129. Priceless is M.’s Guidance on the road of life.
Dark ones beset the way.
Seldom does the spirit’s light assert itself.
Far from tilled is the eternal field.
Widespread are discord and hate.

239. The common highway does not lead
     to the Holy Mountain.

329. Seek new paths!
Find your way amidst the difficulties of life.
But do not let them drown you.
I am here — your Teacher speaks. Be open to Us.

331. Work — the path is open for work.
Into your hands have been put the greatest possibilities.
My crown be with you, for I gave the crown.
Be vigilant. Expect Our Help at every moment.

397. By your actions should you show reverence for the
     Guiding Hand.
You can increase your strength by embracing Our Shield.
Arriving at the crossroads, take only the new path.

402. But you proceed along the path
because you are aflame with service.
I send you a manifestation of strength
because your path is long.

403. When the great path has been designated,
One must carefully avoid deviations.

Leaves of Morya’s Garden II

I:VI:1. By a wondrous bast are your sandals tied for the long journey.
As was the past, so also will be laid the future.
One cannot have respite from predestined meetings.

II:VI:4. The standardized life must be skillfully avoided. ... He who wishes to reach the New Country must not only cast aside all prejudices but also enter by a new way.
The affirmation of life must be built upon the application to local conditions.

III:V:18. Now it is time to speak of the signs of the path leading to Us. First of all, do you clearly accept the existence of the Teachers? ...
How then to find the way to Our Laboratories? Without a summons, no one will reach Us. Without a Guide no one will pass! At the same time there is necessary an indomitable personal striving and readiness for the hardship of the way.

Agni Yoga

83. Spread the grains of the Teaching little by little. Let it imperceptibly flood the being. The time for preaching has passed, and life remains. Inspire the consciousness of your brother with an imperceptible touch, brought to him as his daily bread. Expose and understand his wrath and quench it with goal-fitness. Affirm him in the joy of realized containment. Beware of manifesting miracles to him, but reveal to him the co-measurement of that which passes into the Infinite. Abolish special holidays, and make of life a perpetual holiday.

123. Said Solomon, “I shall set thee at the crossroad and make thee silent and motionless. Before thee will pass the signs of events. Thou shalt restrain thy human curiosity, and thus shalt thou peer into the predestined flow of the current. For beyond human thought is borne universal thought.”
Thus, observe the flow of events as though you were counting sheep from the top of a tower.

289. The cross is the symbol of life.

290. The sower does not count the scattered seeds, for he is the sower and not the reaper. Who goes most joyously to his labor? The upright sower — not the bent reaper. With his right hand the sower broadly scatters his seeds. The wind carries away many seeds, but the sower sings, because he knows that the field is no longer empty. He will depart when the field is full. It does not matter to him who will reap the harvest or who will collect the new seeds. The task of sowing is given to the most trusted toiler. Large is the field, but the skilled hand does not tire.

575. Tomorrow’s flowers bloom from yesterday’s seeds.

669. “How, then, O Lord, to spread Thy Teaching? How, then, O Lord, to find those for whom it is predestined to apply Thy Word for fulfillment?”
And the Lord said in reminder, “A hermit searched for one to whom to entrust the Revelation. And he took the scroll and placed it at the crossroad, ‘Let the Supreme One Himself point out who should find His Teaching.’
“And a little girl came and wrapped her bread in the scroll of Scriptures. But the hermit prepared another scroll and again placed it at the crossroad.
“And a merchant passed and wrote over the scroll with his calculations of his profits. But the hermit did not tire, and once more placed another scroll there. And thus until the very end of his labors and his days. “But when the Higher One asked the hermit how he had spread the Teaching, he answered, ‘It is not given unto me to judge which bird will build the best nest out of these Teachings.’
“Truly, we never know who will use the scroll to torment, who will leave it for oblivion, and who will place it under his pillow in order to affirm it as his own foundation.
“I do not consider that thou hast acted wrongly in offering thy labor for the use of people unknown to thee.”
Thus the Lord affirmed the spreading of the Teaching impersonally, without impatience, without irritation, and without expectation.
Thus, give you also to all — without prejudice, without judging.
Carry, O bird, the Teaching; and in thy flight deliver it into the hearth of those who live in expectation of receiving it.
Carry the Teaching to the crossroad!

Infinity I

46. Manifest the desire for new images. Manifest the desire for new paths. Having awakened the desire toward the beauty of Infinity in everything, humanity will walk forward without glancing back. Only the grandeur of Cosmos will impel the spirit toward the Inaccessible Heights.

Infinity II

1. The ocean of Infinity is within each seed.

285. We, Brothers of Humanity, create through the lever of the heart, and We say, “The beauty of striving opens all paths.”

Heart

236. If we take a deodar tree—the highest and most powerful—how many marks we find on the trunk of former branches which have fallen away. This did not weaken the deodar; on the contrary, the places where these branches fell off became the strongest; even steel will break against them. No Teaching is terrified at those who fall away. It knows that the lower branches must fall aside. Thus, those which fall away, carried by the wind, may fulfill their designation. They may even generate new deodars. And in any case their resin will be curative. Later, when set together to support the corner of a house, they will join unitedly in bearing the general stress. Therefore do not be terrified at those who fall away. They cannot go far from the resin of the heart. And if you observe the mass of crossroads from above, you will even smile at the travelers who meet. When the length of the infinite path is realized, you will also apply different measures. Wandering is not terrifying—immobility alone is chilling.

261. Let us understand the heart as the focus of the physical laws and the highest laws as well. This center was called the crossroad, and was represented by an equilateral cross; the dorje, like the swastika, indicated the rotation of the fire of the heart.

264. Beyond all human boundaries flash the sparks of space. So, also, over and above earthly decrees the far-off calls come flying. Do you not awaken at times with unusual words in your consciousness, do you not hear unearthly names? The meetings in the Subtle World are not few. Not few are the channels to the fiery regions. And often we are called by those whom we are destined to encounter sooner or later in the future.

394. He who has already sensed the altar of the heart will also comprehend the discipline of spirit. We send calls of the heart to those friends who meet upon the crossroads of the East. We send calls of unity to those whose hearts have already sensed the music of the spheres.

Aum

450. Remember the advice that the book of the Teaching should lie at the crossroads. Be not tormented as to whence will come the wayfarers, whence will come the friends who have a presentiment of cognition. Be not distressed by those passing by; they may attract someone without knowing it. They may be indignant, and their cries will attract many. But let us not enumerate the inscrutable paths. They cannot be revealed, yet the heart knows them.

Brotherhood

190. The stupid are capable of affirming that Our Brothers sow sedition and uprisings, whereas actually They are applying all efforts to conciliate the peoples. They are ready to carry on the heavy service of forewarning in time the persons upon whom the national destiny depends. They do not spare their forces in hastening to bring tidings. At the cost of disagreeable methods, They bear the Light, which the forces of darkness are trying to extinguish. Yet the sown seeds of good will not dry up, and in the ordained days the seeds will flourish. But what should those people be called who harm the good? They are capable not only of impeding Advice but of interpreting as failure the most natural consequences. By what measure will the stupid appraise effects? Why do they take it upon themselves to judge where success or failure has appeared? What could happen without the assistance of the Brotherhood? It is hard to imagine the evil interpretation that accompanies each Great Service!

214. I affirm that there are now many significant manifestations, but people are so blind that they do not see the prepared bread. People do not wish to recognize that which is already drawing near in full strength. Let travelers sing at the crossroads about the preordained Brotherhood.

258. Seeds may be scattered by the whirlwind; they may be nibbled by birds; they may be washed away by a downpour of rain—many are the causes and the effects. It is especially difficult for man that he cannot predetermine the result of a sowing. But because of this he should not distribute arbitrarily the results of labor. Man must clearly picture the goal of his work, but the paths of movement and the new obstructions must not distress the worker. In the earthly way it is not easy to reconcile oneself to the thought that seeds can sprout in unexpected places. But let man not forget that the vitality of a seed is great. Thus let us sow, without thinking where the beautiful garden will spring up and expand. A man may select for his garden a splendid place, according to his way of thinking, while the place next to it may prove to be a far more fertile soil where even a seed brought by the wind will flourish. Thus let us sow, having no doubts about the vitality of seeds.
